Is the Symphony Orchestra Guild of Decatur the same thing as the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra?

The Guild was formed in 1974 by a group of residents in Decatur, Illinois, to provide financial support and service to the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra, educational opportunities for young students and adults, and scholarships for musical opportunities for students.

Each year the Symphony Orchestra Guild of Decatur (SOGD) provides a grant to the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra (MDSO) to help augment the financial budget provided by Millikin University. This additional source of funding helps with the musicians’ expenses, music rental, and helping with expenses for guest performers.

What does the Guild do?

The Symphony Orchestra Guild of Decatur sponsors the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra, provides Symphony Orchestra Guild scholarships and live performances in schools, promotes the instrument library, organizes instrument petting zoos, and sponsors the Decatur Youth Symphony Orchestra.

What is the Guild's purpose?

The Guild purpose is to promote and provide support for the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra, provide educational opportunities for young people and adults and provide scholarships for student’s musical opportunities.

How much does it cost to join the Guild?

There is a level of Guild Membership for every budget:

  • Ivory Baton Circle $30 – $59
  • Silver Baton Circle $60 –$119
  • Gold Baton Circle $120 – $249
  • Conductor’s Circle $250 – $499
  • President’s Circle $500 – $999
  • Orchestra Circle $1,000 and up
